Bible Translation
Further considering the message from Sunday's sermon:
As we consider the charge to take God’s word to the nations, one matter for prayer and contemplation is not just the lack of any Christians in many parts of the world, but the lack of any translations of God’s word in many languages.
Per wycliffe.org:
- At least 1.5 billion people (1 out of every 5 people) do not have the full Bible in their language.
- Of the 7,360 languages currently spoken in the world, only 704 have a full Bible.
- Translation work is currently underway for 2,731 languages.
How should we respond?
- Give thanks for the availability of multiple trustworthy translations in your native tongue (e.g. ESV, CSB, NIV, NLT, NASB) and seize hold of this tremendous blessing! Take up and read!
- Give thanks for being able to speak the language of nearly everyone you come into contact with on a daily basis and seize hold of this tremendous blessing! Rise up and speak!
- Support the work of translating the Word into more languages, both through prayer and giving.
- Support the work of taking the Word to unreached groups, both through prayer and giving.
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? (Romans 10:13-14)
Blessings in Christ,
