Jonah 3
Bringing the sermon home:
What is the main message of the book of Jonah?
It’s not found in the account of the fish that appeared in chapter 2, but in the account of the Word that was proclaimed in chapter 3.
Unlike the Israelites of Jonah’s day (typified by Jonah’s stubborn disobedience in chapter 1), the pagan Ninevites immediately received the Word of God given to them, responding in repentance and faith, and they were delivered rather than destroyed. God’s people hear God’s voice in God’s Word, and they respond. Have you?
Like the Ninevites of Jonah’s day, may we hear, believe, and spread the Word that God has given to us!
Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live. (Isaiah 55:2-3a)
