Bringing the sermon home:
These passages address what is undeniably
the foremost foundational commitment of a healthy church:
the commitment to center our lives and our gatherings around the teachings of God’s Word, for it is through His Word that God rules His people.
The God who made you is speaking! He is speaking words of transforming grace! Are you listening? Are you seeking to be “built up” (Acts 20:32) through personal study of God’s Word, day by day? Through group study? Through faithfully gathering week by week to be nourished by the preaching and teaching of this Word? How is Christ exercising His lordship over you except through your study and submission to His Word?
May God’s Word be the foundation stone upon which the life of this church is built, that we may bear great fruit for Him as His kingdom advances in and through our lives!
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. (Matt 7:24-25)
